Collection: Judith Tummino

A FEW THINGS ABOUT THE ARTIST

1. What do you do when you’re not making art? (Day job etc...).

I make art; and when I am not making art I am thinking of art. I also play several instruments. Music seems to compliment my artistic endeavors.

2. Why do you make art?

I make art because I have no choice. I have been in love with the paints and brushes, paintings by others and the wonderful spaces where you find those paintings. I simply have to be a part of that world.

3. What inspires you?

A multitude of things inspire me. A snowflake, drop of water, light through the trees. I have fun with my self portraits which are sometimes quirky and sometimes serious. I have a collection of still life objects which can keep me occupied for years.

4. What/who are your influences?

I feel that my art background took a turn when I studied in Umbria. I fell in love with Morandi’s work as well as that of Corot. I paint from observation, but am not restricted to the photorealistic space.

5. If you could meet anyone dead or alive who would it be?

That’s a hard one because there are so many wonderful people out there. I would like to see a Degas painting in action. I have been intrigued by the way Sorolla seemed to live and work. And there is always Diebenkorn…
